Appetizer

Halal is an Arabic word meaning lawful or permissible according to Islamic law.
It’s probably easier to definite halal foods by what is not halal, or haram i.e. forbidden.

Pork, animals not slaughtered in the prescribed Islamic method, intoxicants, carnivorous animals, birds of prey, carrion, blood and foods contaminated with any of the aforementioned products are forbidden.

To be halal, the animal for slaughter must be healthy. The Islamic method of slaughtering dictates humane slaughtering of animals in the name of Allah, by severing the carotid artery, jugular vein and trachea by a sharp blade. The blood must be allowed to drain out of the carcass.  These are the basic principles; further rules apply.

Mr and I started this blog to share our food experiences with those seeking the enjoyment of halal food, particularly in Perth.

Let the stories begin!

Bismillah.
